Role Summary

The Driver/Mechanic will be responsible for the safe transportation of staff, goods, and

organizational equipment within Kyerwa District and other operational areas as

required. The role also supports basic mechanical maintenance of organizational

vehicles, motorcycles, and generators to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

The position requires a reliable, safety-conscious, and flexible individual capable of

working in remote field locations and maintaining high standards of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

1. Vehicle Operations & Safety

• Safely drive RTV vehicles for official assignments within urban and rural areas.

• Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after trips (fuel, oil, coolant, brake

fluid, tire pressure/condition, battery water, lights, etc.).

• Ensure adherence to Tanzania’s Road Traffic and Transport Regulations at all

times.

• Immediately report any accident, incident, mechanical fault, or damage to the

supervisor and follow proper reporting procedures.

• Ensure all passengers wear seat belts and prioritize passenger safety at all

times.

• Manage long-distance and extended field travel safely and responsibly.

2. Fleet Maintenance & Mechanical Support

• Ensure vehicles are serviced according to the approved maintenance schedule.

• Perform minor mechanical repairs where applicable.

• Coordinate major repairs with approved garages upon Supervisor authorization.

• Support maintenance oversight of organizational motorcycles and generators.

• Monitor and ensure fuel consumption remains within approved organizational

policy limits.

3. Documentation & Asset Management

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks for all journeys.

• Complete daily vehicle checklists and inventory records.

• Ensure the First Aid kit is available and fully stocked in all vehicles.

• Ensure vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and used strictly for authorized

organizational purposes.

• Take responsibility for safe collection, transport, and delivery of goods and

equipment.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Ordinary Level Certificate (mandatory).

• Certificate in Motor Vehicle Technician Course Part II (or equivalent) with

knowledge of vehicle electrical systems.

• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Driver/Mechanic, preferably with an

International NGO.

• Valid driving license with Classes A, B, and DL (as applicable under Tanzanian

licensing requirements).

• Excellent command of Swahili and English (mandatory).

• Knowledge of local languages spoken in Kagera Region is an added advantage.

• Willingness to travel frequently to remote rural areas and work flexible hours,

including weekends when required.

• Drivers requiring prescription glasses must wear them at all times while driving.

• Strong knowledge of Tanzanian Traffic and Road Transport Regulations.
