Job Summary Venn conducts several surveys to gather essential data for monitoring and evaluating Raising The Village (RTV) programs. These surveys inform program design, resource planning, and the assessment of organizational reach. The Field Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing daily field data collection activities to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality implementation of RTV program activities. The role provides direct supervision and support to data collectors, ensuring adherence to approved work plans, data collection protocols, ethical standards, and quality assurance requirements. Roles and Responsibilities - Prepare daily work plans for field activities and ensure that data collectors clearly understand their assignments, locations, timelines, and expected outputs.
- Supervise data collectors during daily field activities to ensure the approved work plan is followed, and field procedures are implemented correctly.
- Monitor daily data collection progress against agreed targets and provide timely guidance to ensure targets are achieved.
- Identify and resolve challenges affecting data collection in the field, escalating issues to the Venn Officer where necessary.
- Conduct routine field-level checks to ensure data collected is accurate, complete, consistent, and of high quality before submission.
- Support data collectors to follow informed consent procedures, respondent confidentiality requirements, and RTV data ethics guidelines.
- Coordinate movement, logistics, and allocation of data collection tools to support smooth implementation of daily field activities.
- Maintain regular communication with the Venn Officer on field progress, daily achievements, challenges, reporting incidents and recommending actions.
- Ensure assigned data collection tools, including tablets, chargers, power banks, and bags, are properly used, safeguarded, and kept in good working conditions.
- Perform any additional job-related duties as assigned by the lead RTV personnel.
- Conduct daily team briefings and end-of-day debrief sessions to review progress, share feedback, and address emerging field challenges.
- Verify survey data and process execution during spot checks and household identification details to ensure compliance with RTV data quality standards.
- Support community entry by coordinating with local leaders and relevant stakeholders before commencing data collection activities.
Qualifications and Experience - Bachelor’s degree in any field.
- Previous experience in data collection and management is an added advantage.
- Experience supervising teams of at least 5–10 data collectors in large-scale household surveys is an added advantage
- Demonstrated proficiency in probing techniques during interviews and surveys.
- Proven ability to work with minimal supervision while achieving set targets.
- Prior experience in research methods is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Excel and digital data collection tools, especially SurveyCTO and Survey123.
- Preferably a resident of the stated districts.
Skills and Competencies - Experience in field data collection supervision for at least 2 years.
- Physical ability to travel extensively and work in remote, hard-to-reach areas for long hours on foot.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities under field conditions.
- Strong teamwork and independent work capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to upholding data ethics and moral values in rural community settings.
- Demonstrated integrity and ability to maintain the organization’s credibility within partner communities.
- Fluency in Kiswahili is a MUST, and a good working knowledge of English is preferred.
- Local languages, i.e Kihaya/Kinyambo is an added advantage.
