Position Summary
The MEL Intern will support the Malawi Country Office Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) function through data gathering, data entry, Data Quality Assurance (DQA), MEL administrative tasks, and participation in other routine MEL activities. The role provides practical, hands-on experience while strengthening data accuracy, reporting, and learning across programs.
Learning & Professional Development Oppportunity
During the internship, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on exposure to country-level MEL systems of donor funded intervention programmes.
- Build skills in data management, analysis, and documentation skills.
- Develop practical experience in compilation of MEL information products for reporting to the board and to various donor agencies.
- Strengthen progressional skills in communication, teamwork, writing, in additional to technical MEL areas, n a social development context
- Receive mentorship and support during internship

Duties and Responsibilities
Data Gathering, Management
- Conduct basic data cleaning, formatting, and organization of datasets
- Maintain proper version control and secure storage of data files
- Support updating of indicator tracking tables, databases, and dashboards
- Support routine Data Quality Assurance for practice and academic data
- Support documentation of DQA findings and follow-up actions
- Assist in identifying data gaps, discrepancies, and errors and flag them to PMEL staff
MEL Administrative Support
- Liaise with the Finance Officer to ensure monthly payments, for data collection teams, are executed on time.
- Support maintenance of organized electronic files, including tools, datasets, and reports.
- Assist with scheduling of and preparation for MEL meetings, learning sessions, and field activities
Country Office MEL Activities
- Support logistics for routine MEL activities.
- Support preparation of select donor reports, pulling data and liaising with required staff and partners
- Contribute towards information and learning products such as presentations, infographics, write ups, and briefs.
- Assist with meeting notes and documentation of learning sessions
- Support documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and success stories and dissemination of the same.
- Assist in developing presentations, infographics and learning briefs.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in health informatics/health information systems, or computer science/ICT and statistics or data science.
- Basic knowledge/experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL/MEL).
- Basic understanding of data collection, indicators, and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Good analytical and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with MEL frameworks, log frames, or results frameworks
- Experience or exposure to digital data collection tools (e.g. DHIS-2, Kobo, ODK,)
- Prior internship, volunteer, or academic experience in data management
