Your mission at Sistema.bio:
As Head of Carbon Operations, you will ensure that Sistema.bio’s carbon projects are designed, monitored, and executed to meet global certification standards. You will secure timely verification and issuance of credits while refining methodologies and keeping our carbon programs credible, future-ready, and aligned with industry standards such as GS4GG, ICVCM, and PACM. You will collaborate closely with the commercial carbon team to support program development and annual delivery plans. You will report to the COO and lead a team of 5 carbon technical and operations specialists based in four different locations.
You will be in charge of:
- Overseeing the full lifecycle of carbon credit generation, from project registration to verification and issuance for both voluntary and compliance programs.
- Managing coordination with VVBs, registries, and internal teams; maintain issuance calendars and track milestone completion.
- Refining emission-reduction calculations, updating baselines and emission factors, and implementing best-practice methodologies.
- Providing technical inputs and forecasts to the commercial carbon team.
- Coordinating pilots and innovation projects with internal stakeholders and acting as the company focal point for carbon standards.
- Developing and maintaining SOPs and training materials, continuously training regional associates to improve technical understanding.
- Tracking key performance indicators including on-time issuance, methodology implementation, and monitoring data accuracy.
- Managing budgets for certifications and vendor relationships.
More about YOU:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in climate change and sustainability, with at least 5 years of excellent track record managing carbon project registration and issuance cycles.
- Strong understanding of carbon markets, relevant standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and its implementation.
- Proven ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels and maintain ongoing relationships.
- Strong technical thinking and structured project management skills.
- Technical and analytical proficiency in carbon methodologies.
- Collaborative and proactive, able to solve problems across a wide range of multi-cultural teams.
- Passionate about climate action, compliance-focused, and adaptable to change.
Other important details:
- This is a full-time position.
- The ideal candidate should be based in a Central/Eastern Africa or Europe-aligned time zone.
- The role involves travel of approximately 15–20% to our locations in Kenya, India, Mexico, and Colombia.
- The anticipated start date is February 2026.
