Position: Finance and Accounting Associate (12-month contract –  Renewable )

Reporting to: Country Manager – Tanzania

Location: Arusha

Primary role:           To maintain accounting records for Solar Sister’s Tanzania operations in accordance with Solar Sister policies and procedures; prepare internal and external financial reports; assist in budgeting processes; and oversee account payables and receivables.

Solar Sister (www.solarsister.org) is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Finance and Accounting Associate for our Tanzania operations. The Associate will play a key role in Solar Sister’s Arusha office, working directly with the Country Manager to build a strong and vibrant business. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with the dedicated and passionate Solar Sister team in Tanzania, the United States, Kenya, and Nigeria.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Managing all accounting functions, including cash management, general ledger, inventory, disbursements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Ensuring that all transactions are recorded on time, accurately, and with proper documentation (along with support documents), have the required authorization, and are made in accordance with Solar Sister policies and procedures.
  • Preparing and reviewing account reconciliations and analysis.
  • Ensuring all financial records are filed in a safe and secure manner.
  • Preparing internal and external accounting reports, including but not limited to reconciliations, profits & losses, balance sheets, and budget versus spends.
  • Assisting in the development of sound internal controls and monitoring their implementation.
  • Assisting in budget development.
  • Fulfilling audit documentation requests.
  • Giving advice about financial matters to the Country Manager.
  • Other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate-level degree in finance, accounting, or business. 
  • 3 years of professional accounting/finance experience. 
  • Experience in developing budgets and financial reports (including for donors), strategic planning, and providing guidance and support to non-finance staff.
  • Part-qualified accountant with ACCA/CIMA or some other recognized professional body.
  • Three professional references

KEY SKILLS AND SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE

Candidates should have the following:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong bookkeeping, QuickBooks, and Excel spreadsheet skills. Experience with SalesForce would be a plus but is not required.
  • Strong business acumen and commitment to results.
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in written English. 
  • Ability to work well in teams as well as to pursue and complete independent tasks.
