Springboard is a social enterprise that empowers rural people and their communities through the farmers’ cooperative movement. Springboard works with smallholder farmers, youth, women, and other stakeholders in the agric and food sector in over 60 communities in Nigeria. Springboard works to empower rural people and communities using an approach based on 5 pillars: Recruit: Springboard recruits and develops farmers according to the Disempowered to Empowered model (D2E). Farmers organize (25-30 members per group) at communal and cluster levels and register with the Springboard co-op. Train: Best practices, agroforestry, organic farming, entrepreneurship/business skills, and co-op management. Springboard uses farmer-to-farmer training models. Support: Certification, pre-finance, farm set-up, extension service, input supply, tree planting (over 2 million trees planted so far). Buy: Utilizing the hub-spoke collection model, Springboard buys 100% of quality produce at fair prices where farmers make a significant margin and also receive Fairtrade premiums. Sell and Value Addition: Springboard sells raw produce and processed products to local and international markets. Our farmers also share in the co-op profit. Springboard is driven by: Vision: Nigerian small-scale farmers are prosperous and can make a sustainable and comfortable living. Mission: Empower small-scale farmers through a co-op movement to capture most of the value chain, grow much more organic produce, sell more, and sell for more. Goal: 30,000 empowered farmers by 2030, each making over $2,500 yearly from their farm businesses, with over 300,000 family members of the farmers benefiting from the improved income, serving the market with highly nutritious healthy food and farm produce.
