About the Open Mapping Hub - West & Northern Africa (WNAH)

The WNAH is one of four regional open mapping hubs opened in March 2022, powered by the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team. The purpose of the WNAH is to serve the OpenStreetMap movement in the West and Northern Africa region, providing decentralized support and services to the OpenStreetMap movement; powering the evolution and growth of OpenStreetMap data and community ecosystems in the region and maximizing the impact of both for improved humanitarian and social impact.

About the Role

The role is responsible for managing the full cycle of the grant process; from identifying suitable opportunities alongside the fundraising Assistant, research, compiling documentation with support and collaboration from relevant units within HOT, writing the grants, ensuring it meets compliance requirements, submission and tracking.

The role of the Grant writer is to research and find suitable funding opportunities that are in sync to the mission and values of the HOT Regional WNA-Hub, as well as meets the specific requirements and preferences of each funding source;

The position will support the development of a standard protocol for grant management including writing clear, concise, and persuasive grant proposals and applications that align with the organization's mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • As a Grant Writer, you will work closely with the varying teams across the organization, to identify funding opportunities, develop compelling grant proposals, and manage the grant application process;
  • The Grant writer is responsible for writing polished proposals to earn grant funds including preparing accurate and timely grant reports in compliance with funders' requirements.
  • Track program outcomes and impact data to support reporting efforts.
  • S/he will be work with the varying teams including Fundraising specialists in collaboration with other hubs and WNA Regional Directors to support and manage grant portfolios across HOT;
  • S/he will attend meetings, conferences, and networking events to explore potential collaborations.

***Essential Requirements/Qualifications (whom the cap fits):

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the varying grant proposals and donor funding opportunities;
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful grant applications and excellent writing skills.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years in-depth experience in grant research, documentation and grant proposals writing;
  • Care deeply about the mission: passionate about humanitarian & development work demonstrated through prior professional experiences,
  • A minimum of 3 years working directly with institutional and individual donors in the West & Northern Africa region, and with a strong personal network relating to the position,
  • Experience in grant writing for NGOs,
  • Experience in fundraising funds for private, public or international development institutions or or relief projects which relied on donors to be successful,
  • Experience in searching for grant opportunities, developing, submitting and following up on successful proposals,
  • University or college degree in international development, Internationalrelations, sociology, data science, GIS, law or equivalent length work experience in related fields,
  • Knowledge of open data ecosystem
  • Good interpersonal skills, and ability to develop effective relationships online and in person,
  • Independent, self-driven, and organized,
  • Attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills,
  • Fluent in written and spoken English,
  • A good knowledge of French would be a considerable asset
  • Other responsibilities and duties as required.

Desirable

  • 1-2 years community or professional experience in OpenStreetMap
  • Fluency in another language from the West & Northern Africa Region
