About Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT)
Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) sits at the nexus of participatory mapping, community-led development, humanitarian response, open data and tech. With a talented and diverse team spread around the globe, HOT is an NGO which supports a dynamic global community of thousands of dedicated volunteers using maps and open data for humanitarian response and the Sustainable Development Goals. Working with humanitarian and development partners like the Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières, UN agencies, governments and others, the HOT community maps in solidarity with those affected by or at risk of disaster, contributing the maps and data aid workers need to do their lifesaving work.
Overview of the Position:
To develop open AI solutions for mapping and map data use in close collaboration with the Technical Product Owner AI (100% of the focus).
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect and implement Geo-AI pipelines for model training, versioning and deployment using open MLOps tools with model metadata management in fAIr
- Co-lead GeoAI/ML models development, testing and implementation in Tech & Data team
- Collaborate with AI researchers, product owners, and the open mappping community to co-design and iterate AI based solutions for aerial and satellite imagery
- Co-lead 4 field testing engagements in coordination with HOT HUBs
- Helps secure funding for HOT Tech and Data in a proactive manner
Essential Requirements/Qualifications:
- 8+ years ofsoftware development experience preferably in Python, with solid experience working with geospatial data
- 4+ years experience in Geo-AI with proven experience in computer vision for aerial imagery with popular frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Proven experience in MLOps and DAG pipelines, including CI/CD, model versioning (MLflow, DVC), and orchestration
- Familiarity with API development and database integration (Postgres/PostGIS) is a bonus but not required
- Experience guiding or contributing to software development teams in FOSS space
- Rich understanding of the open data and tech environment and sector trends
- Good collaboration and communication skills
- Proficient in English for Professional communication
