About The/Nudge
The/Nudge is an action institute building resilient livelihoods to alleviate poverty. We work with women, farmers, tribals and youth on rural development, agriculture, skilling and economic inclusion, along with 15+ central and state government partners.
Our economic inclusion journey for 25 million Indians, has reached 10 states with $250M of government funding to cover 1.25M people. Our incubator, accelerator and grand challenges have supported 200+ social entrepreneurs including 17 Forbes 30U30, 3 EarthShot Prize winners, 1 Time Magazine cover and more.

What are we solving for?
We are solving for households in poverty who are also financially and socially vulnerable through a targeted, multi-faceted, and sequenced model called the graduation approach, which has demonstrated that we can durably pull households out of poverty.
At The/Nudge Institute, we are in the process of catalyzing the propagation of the same. Our purpose is to contribute to ending poverty in India.:
  • Continue to implement on its own to iterate the design for impact at scale
  • Enable more NGOs to adopt technical and capacity-building support
  • Enable govt to adopt by providing research, design, and implementation support
  • Continue to generate data on poverty and evidence on graduation approach to nudge governments to adopt at-scale
  • Build technology solutions for NGOs and governments to adopt and implement at scale & with quality.
  • The Farm Livelihoods Specialist will lead the design, contextualisation, and strengthening of agriculture and livestock-based livelihood models across Jharkhand.
  • The role combines strong technical expertise in farm and livestock systems with structured capacity building of field teams, ensuring that livelihood interventions are technically sound, scalable, and effectively implemented on the ground.
  • Designing scalable farm and livestock livelihood models, including context-specific Package of Practices (PoPs)
  • Developing structured capacity-building systems for field teams
  • Delivering high-quality technical trainings and field demonstrations
  • Strengthening productivity, risk mitigation, and income optimisation for participating households
  • This is a high field-engagement role requiring strong technical depth in agriculture and livestock systems, along with capabilities in training design, facilitation, and mentoring of field teams.
What will you do?
1. Farm & Livestock Livelihood Design:
  • Conduct field research to identify viable crop and livestock opportunities across different agro-climatic zones of Jharkhand
  • Design and contextualise Package of Practices (PoPs) for:
  • Agriculture-based livelihoods (including vegetables and field crops)
  • Livestock-based livelihoods such as goatery, piggery, poultry, dairy, and duckery
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for field implementation
  • Integrate climate resilience, disease prevention, and cost optimisation into livelihood models
  • Pilot livelihood models and refine them based on productivity and income outcomes
2. Capacity Building & Training Systems
  • Design structured training curricula for agriculture and livestock livelihoods
  • Develop technical training modules, manuals, and IEC materials
  • Build and manage a pool of Master Trainers at state and district levels
  • Conduct classroom trainings, field demonstrations, and exposure session
  • Provide hands-on mentoring to block teams and community cadres
3. Productivity & Sustainability Strengthening
  • Improve adoption of scientific farming and livestock management practices
  • Strengthen input planning and access to quality inputs
  • Support convergence with line departments such as Agriculture and Veterinary services
  • Promote preventive care, vaccination, feed management, and soil health practices
  • Strengthen community institutions (CLF/VO) for input procurement and supply systems
4. Monitoring & Adaptive Learning
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess PoP adoption and productivity outcomes
  • Analyse yield, cost, and income data from livelihood interventions
  • Identify technical gaps and update training content accordingly
  • Document best practices and field innovations for institutional sale-up
Who are we looking for in this role?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Animal Husbandry, or a related field. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in promoting farm and livestock-based livelihoods with rural communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing agriculture and livestock interventions such as vegetable cultivation, goatery, poultry, piggery, dairy, or similar livelihood models.
  • Experience in training and mentoring field teams, community cadres, or producer groups.
  • Prior experience working with SRLMs, government livelihood programmes, or large-scale rural development programmes will be strongly preferred.
  • Good understanding of smallholder farming systems and livestock practices in eastern India/Jharkhand will be an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across districts in Jharkhand.
  • Proficiency in Hindi is mandatory; familiarity with local dialects will be an advantage.
