What are we solving for?
We are solving for households in poverty who are also financially and socially vulnerable through a targeted, multi-faceted, and sequenced model called the graduation approach, which has demonstrated that we can durably pull households out of poverty.
At The/Nudge Institute, we have been piloting this program for the past 3 years and are now scaling it across multiple states. Our purpose is to enable the most excluded individuals to become contributing members of the economy. We will
  • Enable the government to adopt by providing research, design, and implementation support
  • Continue to iterate on the program design to create impact at scale through our own implementation efforts
  • Support more NGOs in adopting the graduation approach by offering technical expertise and capacity building
  • Build evidence on the graduation approach to nudge governments to adopt at scale
  • Develop technology solutions that enable NGOs and governments to adopt and implement the program at scale and with quality
What are some of the principles/ approaches we use?
  • First principles thinking
  • Human centered design (thoughtful, action oriented, experimental & iterative process) with a gender lens (unbiased and reflective approach)
  • Systems thinking (analytical, stakeholder oriented and holistic)
  • Strategic planning (result oriented, logical & coherent with clearly defined outcomes, grounded in current realities)

  • Coordinate with Operation leads and state leads to identify critical capability gaps and prioritize interventions (technical, process, behavioral).

2. Design and delivery of learning

  • Support design and contextualization of training modules, and micro-learning content for economic inclusion (livelihoods, coaching, case management, data use, dashboards).
  • Deploy a mix of learning methods: in-person training, coaching, field exposures, online modules, and refresher sessions.
  • Facilitate train-the-trainer (ToT) for field teams and manage a pool of internal trainers and champions at field level.

3. Performance tracking, coaching, and continuous engagement

  • Analyze performance and field outcome data with program teams to identify patterns, root causes, and learning needs.

  • Support setup and smooth functioning of tools and automation processes.
  • Contribute to knowledge products (case studies, process notes, toolkits) that can be replicated across states and programs.

5. Automation, data, and AI first mindset

  • Automate key people- and learning-related processes, workflows, and data flows to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and free field teams to focus on core program work.
