About the Role:
Thorn’s Senior Policy Manager will play a key role within Thorn’s policy team to expand our US and international stakeholder outreach and engagement. Our goal is to ensure that key stakeholders around the globe recognize Thorn’s expertise and thought leadership with regards to child sexual abuse and exploitation as well as Thorn’s expertise is building and innovating technological solutions to eradicate the issue. You will develop a deep technical understanding of the cutting edge technologies and tools we build and the dynamic landscape that affects our work.
Regular in person meetings required and up to 30% travel.
What You’ll Do:
- Partner with the Director of Policy on creating and executing Thorn’s global policy strategy;
- Lead on key policy area affecting cross discipline work (example: transparency, global hash sharing) in collaboration with the Director of Policy;
- Manage an individual portfolio of relationships with key stakeholders including policymakers and ecosystem partner organizations (law enforcement, tech, and NGOs);
- Represent Thorn at government, tech, and NGO partner meetings, roundtables, and events;
- Conduct policy research, including outreach to on-the-ground stakeholders;
- Draft memos, strategies, meeting readouts, etc.;
- Manage internal cross sector collaboration and programmatic work;
- Identify and execute policy opportunities that further the company’s mission;
- Act in place of the Director of Policy as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- 6-8+ years of Congressional, government, international policy, non-profit and/or policy experience;
- Proven experience in judiciary, homeland security, technology and/or commerce issue areas;
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills;
- Excellent judgment and awareness in high-stakes, fast-paced environments;
- Ability to establish and strengthen internal and external relationships;
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a remote team;
- Ability to work independently with little guidance;
- Prior knowledge of child exploitation issues is a plus;
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time;
- Desire to serve Thorn’s mission.
Compensation and Benefits
A reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role is $117,000-$135,000/year. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to location; skill sets; experience and training; licensure, and certifications.
Our remote-first work model is structured around working from home most of the time. But, there will be times that employees are expected to travel. For example, Thorn may host company-wide gatherings, and smaller teams may hold in-person meetings and team-building events, or require attendance at specific conferences.
