Can you maintain bulletproof financial controls and high-precision audit trails while keeping field operations fast, compliant, and impactful?

About Tiko

Tiko is an African nonprofit committed to strengthening the potential and resilience of adolescent girls across Africa. We address the “Triple Threat” of unintended pregnancy, HIV infection, and sexual and gender-based violence by building local health ecosystems that provide stigma-free, no-cost, quality-assured services.

Our model brings together key local actors: community-based organizations (CBO) with peer mobilisers who act as health companions to girls; public and private health clinics that deliver care; and retail partners that redeem Tiko Miles -our behaviour-change incentive programme that rewards service uptake and feedback.

We invest in partners by strengthening CBO capacity, training frontline workers and providers, supporting clinic quality improvement, and compensating partners based on performance. Our technology platform connects all actors by enabling referrals, verifying service delivery, facilitating payments, and generating real-time data.

Tiko operates in six countries: Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, South Africa, and Nigeria, with additional offices in Portugal, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. For a clear overview of our work, we recommend watching this short video.

Globally, our team consists of +250 enthusiastic, international colleagues. Whether you are working from our biggest office in Nairobi, the fast-growing office in South Africa, or from home, our people are young, and our culture is global and dynamic. Our work environment is fast-paced, informal, and friendly.

For this position we will happily accept applicants from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Job

At Tiko, we build technology and deliver ecosystem solutions that give young women access to vital health services and economic opportunities. Front-end impact demands a back-end financial framework that is disciplined, transparent, and built to scale. That is where you come in.

As our Financial Administrator in Ethiopia, you will be the operational backbone of our local finance function. This role goes far beyond basic book-keeping; you will act as a critical gatekeeper, reconciling complex field-level data, enforcing statutory compliance, and optimizing our procurement-to-pay workflow. From conditional cash transfer schedules to shelter operational audits, you will ensure every ledger entry is backed by rock-solid evidence, protecting organizational integrity so our mission can move forward without friction.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement-to-Pay & Sub-Ledger Integrity

  • Vigilant Gatekeeping: Verify and record bills and journals in the accounting system, ensuring all entries feature compliant tax and company documentation, proof of delivery, and clear audit trails.
  • Delegation of Authority (DOA) Enforcement: Enforce procurement regulations and internal accounting processes, guaranteeing that processed bills strictly align with organizational DOA limits.
  • Disbursement Preparation: Maintain high accuracy across accounts payable and sub-ledgers, preparing clean, validated data for timely disbursements.

Programmatic & Field Operations Support

  • Conditional Cash Transfers: Gather weekly beneficiary data and cross-verify attendance and milestone records to draft conditional cash transfer schedules for management approval.
  • Partner & Shelter Auditing: Collect monthly partner invoices, cross-check them against digital project dashboards, and perform routine compliance checks at project-supported shelters prior to formal fund disbursements.
  • Field Data & Per Diem Verification: Conduct spot-checks at field sites to reconcile physical attendance sheets against system-generated digital reports, while managing distribution documentation for participant per diems.
  • Expenditure Forecasting: Compile monthly local field data and cohort numbers to support the central finance team in forecasting future operational expenditures and burn rates.

Compliance, Audit & Record Archiving

  • Statutory & Tax Compliance: Ensure the Ethiopian entity operates in full compliance with local financial, accounting, and tax laws, mitigating operational and financial risk.
  • Digitisation & Archiving: Own the systematic filing, physical safekeeping, and digital archiving of all local finance records and paper evidence.
  • Month-End & Year-End Closure: Partner with the global finance team to execute complete, timely month-end and year-end book closures, providing comprehensive evidence files for external statutory audits.

Collaborative Growth & Continuous Improvement

  • Active Participation: Contribute insights in team meetings and cross-functional projects, fostering collaborative problem-solving across the organisation.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of evolving local accounting regulations, internal control frameworks, and technical best practices.

About You

You possess a rare blend of analytical precision and field-level practicality. You take pride in being the person who catches the discrepancy that others miss, treating internal controls not as bureaucratic hurdles, but as necessary pillars for sustainable impact.

As a true pioneer, you are comfortable working in a fast-evolving ecosystem, adapting quickly when field dynamics change without compromising on financial integrity. You bring a supportive, mentorship-focused attitude to your interactions with field teams, helping non-finance colleagues understand compliance needs while keeping human impact at the heart of your data-driven decisions.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in finance administration, accounts payable management, or operational accounting, ideally within a multi-site NGO, social enterprise, or fast-scaling enterprise.
  • Strong mastery of financial risk mitigation, cost control methods, internal control frameworks, and sub-ledger management.
  • Proven track record in field data reconciliation, cash-transfer verification, or partner grant reconciliation.
  • In-depth understanding of Ethiopian statutory financial regulations, tax laws, and standard audit preparation processes.
  • Proficiency with modern ERP/accounting software, digital dashboards, and advanced data reconciliation tools in Excel.
  • Higher national diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Compensation & Benefits

The gross salary range per month for this position is €1,262 - €1,577. Your final salary will be determined based on your experience and alignment with your future colleagues.

In addition to your monthly salary, we offer you:

  • Benefits and allowances tailored to your location.
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote or hybrid options.
  • A personal development budget of €500 per year to invest in your professional growth
  • Unlimited holiday days to use as you see fit - just coordinate with your team and take the time you need to recharge.
  • The opportunity to shape a growing, impactful product and leave your mark on how we work
  • A culture built on trust - we believe you’ll do your best without the need for unnecessary rules or micromanagement
