About the Role
We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and results-driven Business Development Manager – Bancassurance & Strategic Partnerships to accelerate Turaco's growth in Nigeria.
This is a new business acquisition role. We are looking for a hunter.
Someone who enjoys opening doors, building relationships, identifying commercial opportunities and, most importantly, closing deals.
The successful candidate will identify, pursue and secure new partnerships with commercial banks, microfinance banks, fintechs, digital lenders, telecommunications companies and other organisations that can distribute affordable insurance to their customers.
You will own the business development process from prospecting and initial engagement through proposal development, commercial negotiation, agreement signing and successful partnership launch.
We want someone who is proactive, well-connected, commercially curious and motivated by results. Someone who understands the Nigerian financial services landscape and can turn business conversations into meaningful commercial partnerships.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. New Business Acquisition & Revenue Growth
- Identify, prospect and secure new partnerships with commercial banks, microfinance banks, fintechs, digital lenders, telecommunications companies and other distribution partners across Nigeria.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified business opportunities with clear conversion plans.
- Own the full business development cycle, from prospecting and initial meetings to proposal development, negotiation, contract signing and launch.
- Deliver against agreed new business acquisition and Gross Written Premium (GWP) targets.
- Proactively engage CEOs, Managing Directors, Heads of Bancassurance and other senior decision-makers to explore commercial opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to embed insurance into existing financial products, loan portfolios, digital platforms and customer transactions.
- Pursue high-potential partnerships that offer significant customer reach and sustainable revenue growth.
2. Strategic Partnerships & Deal Execution
- Build trusted relationships with prospective partners and understand their business models, customer needs and commercial priorities.
- Develop compelling business proposals that demonstrate the value of partnering with Turaco.
- Work closely with Product, Underwriting and Finance teams to structure competitive, relevant and commercially sustainable insurance solutions.
- Lead commercial presentations, partnership discussions and negotiations to secure new business.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders to ensure opportunities progress efficiently from initial discussions to signed agreements.
- Take personal ownership of deal execution, following through on commitments and overcoming obstacles to closure.
- Support successful partnership launches and ensure a smooth handover to the Partnership Success team for ongoing relationship management and growth.
3. Market Development & Intelligence
- Identify emerging business opportunities across Nigeria's banking, microfinance, fintech, digital lending and alternative distribution sectors.
- Develop strong professional networks across financial institutions, insurance intermediaries and other potential distribution partners.
- Monitor competitor offerings, market pricing, industry developments and new distribution opportunities.
- Identify underserved customer segments and opportunities for embedded insurance, credit life, health and other relevant insurance solutions.
- Share market intelligence and prospective partner feedback to inform Turaco's product development and commercial strategy.
- Represent Turaco at industry events, networking forums and strategic business engagements.
4. Sales Discipline & Commercial Execution
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date sales pipeline, including opportunity values, expected closing dates and next steps.
- Provide weekly pipeline updates, revenue forecasts and progress reports against agreed targets.
- Proactively follow up on prospects, move negotiations forward and address commercial bottlenecks.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure timely proposals, pricing approvals and execution of commercial agreements.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, accountability and responsiveness in all partner engagements.

Success in this role will be measured by:
- New Partnerships Signed: Consistently acquiring quality institutional and strategic distribution partners.
- New Business GWP: Delivering against agreed premium generation targets from newly acquired partnerships.
- Pipeline Development: Maintaining a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities with strong revenue potential.
- Deal Conversion: Successfully converting prospects into signed commercial agreements.
- Speed to Market: Ensuring signed partnerships progress efficiently towards successful launches.
- Commercial Value: Securing partnerships with sustainable economics and long-term growth potential.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Insurance or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant business development or B2B sales experience, preferably within insurance, banking, fintech or financial services.
- Proven track record of acquiring new corporate clients or strategic business partnerships and achieving revenue targets.
- Good understanding of Nigeria's banking, microfinance, fintech and alternative distribution landscape.
- Strong professional networks and ability to engage senior executives and key decision-makers.
- Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, presentation and closing skills.
- Self-driven, commercially minded and comfortable working with ambitious sales targets.
- Ability to independently manage a sales pipeline and progress opportunities from prospecting to closure.
- Insurance industry experience or professional qualifications are an added advantage.
