Wakami was born by recognizing that Guatemala is a country where dreams are big but opportunities are few. It all started when we reached communities and asked: What do you need? and the answer was “What we need is a source of income”. These words triggered endless questions, plans, projects that led us to create our formula for change
Wakami is a social business that designs, develops and exports fashion accessories, clothing and decoration products - made in rural communities in Guatemala - to more than 20 countries. They link rural communities with national and global markets, to transform cycles of poverty into cycles of prosperity. To achieve this, they support the incubation and strengthening of micro enterprises and producer groups, and link them to their value chain as formal suppliers. Each of their pieces tells a story to inspire global citizenship.
