Job Title: Land Surveyor Apprentice
Reports to: Chief Technical Officer (CTO)
Type: Apprenticeship / Entry-Level
Duration: 6 months with potential for full-time employment
Role Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and fast-learning individual to join our team as a Land Surveyor Apprentice. This is a unique opportunity to be trained directly by the company’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), gaining hands-on experience and strategic insight into land surveying, infrastructure planning, and community engagement.
While this is an entry-level role, the successful candidate will be expected to learn quickly, take initiative, and progressively assume key responsibilities under close supervision. The goal is to prepare you to take over critical land-related functions as the company transitions leadership in this area.
Key Learning & Growth Areas:
You will be trained and expected to rapidly develop the skills needed to support and eventually lead tasks in the following areas:
- Surveying & Data Collection
- Assist in conducting geophysical surveys and learn to interpret results.
- Support data collection using field tools and digital mapping software.
- Progress toward independently identifying groundwater sources.
- Land Identification & Assessment
- Participate in site visits and assist in evaluating land suitability.
- Learn to resolve boundary issues and document findings.
- Take on increasing responsibility for selecting land for infrastructure projects.
- Land Documentation & Permissions
- Help prepare land reports, agreements, and applications.
- Learn the legal and procedural steps for land subdivision and transfer.
- Support and eventually lead applications for water extraction and grid connection.
- Community Engagement & Pipeline Planning
- Join community consultations and learn to identify and document obstacles.
- Support compensation processes and collaborate with the pipeline team.
- Take initiative in proposing solutions and route adjustments.
Responsibilities (Progressively Assumed):
- Work closely with the CTO to understand strategic and operational aspects of land management.
- Participate in fieldwork, measurements, and data entry.
- Maintain organized records of land data and project files.
- Attend training sessions and complete learning assignments.
- Demonstrate initiative and readiness to take on more complex tasks.
- Begin to manage small tasks independently with oversight.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Vocational High School (VHS) diploma in land surveying, civil engineering, environmental science, or a related technical field.
- Strong willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office, Google Maps, etc.).
- Attention to detail and comfort working outdoors.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A clear intention to pursue a career in land surveying or a related field for at least the next 3 to 5 years.
