Responsibilities

Program Overview

Youth Villages’ Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems. Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings. The majority of these youth attend the fully accredited schools which are located on our residential treatment campuses.

Position Overview

Carries out duties to support the Licensed Teachers, Paraprofessionals, and Behavioral Youth Counselors including but not limited to:

-Oversees morning routine – helping youth get ready for school

-Responsible for behavioral management on the courtyard and in the classroom

-Leads and engages youth in all activities and groups during the shift on school holidays and school breaks

-Participate in training and in-service activities
-Assist with tutoring individuals and/or small groups of students

-Provides instruction on coping skills and other therapeutic interventions
-Participate in community based activities and group trips
-Participate in experiential learning experiences
-Conducts daily documentation such as contact notes, milieu notes, and precautionary notes
-Participates in client transports to various locations
-Participates in recreation therapy with children
-Other essential duties may be assigned as needed
-Schedule is typically weekday first shift (7am-3:30pm) but will also assist with second shift and/or weekends when additional support is needed

Additional Information

The supervision and treatment of youth requires prolonged periods of walking and standing and physical agility. May be required to run and climb flights of stairs. Must be able to participate in physical interventions with youth when necessary. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Will be required to complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR training.
Applicants are required to pass an agility and strength evaluation.
Applicants must have valid driver’s license.

Small Class Sizes to allow more one on one attention to individual students and their educational needs. The standard Youth Villages class size ranges from 8-15 children.

Average Annual Salary

$40000 - $57000 / year based on schedule and hours worked

**Time-and-a-half pay for worked holidays**

Qualifications

Requirements


Degreed and non-degreed positions available.
Must have minimum of High school diploma or GED.
Experience teaching in a classroom setting is preferred.
Experience working with children with severe emotional and behavioral needs is a plus.
