About One Acre Fund
Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa's farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. On average, this model enables any farmer to increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while permanently improving their resilience. About the Role
As Chief of Staff, you will work at the intersection of people systems, internal operations, and inter-departmental coordination. You'll lead the People Division by managing HR and Corporate Operations (CRO) Leads, support the Country Director with briefs and internal reviews, and lead implementation on important initiatives related to risk, compliance, team culture, and communication.
You won't run HR or compliance operations yourself—but you'll ensure they are working. You'll bring structure, calm, and clarity to our organization. You will report to the Country Director.
Responsibilities
People Division Governance
- Manage the HR and CRO Leads, review budgets, and chair monthly division reviews
- Set service standards (e.g., time to onboard, payroll)
- Align internal systems with legal, donor, and audit requirements
- Pilot tools to streamline workflows (e.g,. probation trackers, leave analytics)
Risk & Compliance Coordination
- Maintain a unified risk register covering legal, audit, fraud, and H&S issues
- Convene monthly cross-risk check-ins and produce status reports
- Coordinate with Legal and GR on filings, permits, and registration deadlines
Internal Rhythm & Strategy Execution
- Co-lead OKR cycles, business reviews, monthly staff meetings, and cross-team planning
- Draft clear options memos and internal briefs for decision-making
- Keep leadership focused on the right conversations at the right time
Staff Culture & Learning
- Run staff pulse surveys and lead follow-up action
- Coordinate company-wide learning moments (e.g., inclusive leadership, well-being)
- Flag emerging team challenges early and support senior leaders in resolving them
Projects & Team Events
- Co-lead internal “sprints” (e.g., performance rollout, vision refresh, recognition redesign)
- Plan staff retreats and internal events; manage company-wide communications
- Translate program data into donor-ready materials (slide decks, briefing notes)

Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- 7+ years in strategy, operations, HRBP, or business ops—including 3+ years managing teams
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili
- Experience leading cross-team workstreams or systems (e.g., performance, compliance, OKR setting)
- Familiarity with Tanzanian labor laws and donor-facing compliance expectations
- Financial fluency: budgets, salary modeling, interpreting performance dashboards
