About the Role

Over the next two years, One Acre Fund is building a world-class facility at the RICA Campus in Bugesera, which will support millions of farmers to be more prosperous via better crop seed systems. The Electrical Project Engineer serves as the technical guardian of the RICA Seed Centre’s electrical systems, providing the Construction Manager with rigorous oversight of electrical works, materials, designs, and site compliance, by proactively resolving inconsistencies in drawings, BOQs, etc. This role ensures seamless coordination, compliance, and quality execution from design through commissioning. Through strong leadership and technical excellence, the engineer will deliver reliable, sustainable electrical solutions for the project.

Responsibilities

Design & Technical Oversight

  • Perform electrical system design using AutoCAD, Archicad, and other relevant electrical design and simulation software.
  • Conduct load calculations, system sizing, and technical evaluations.
  • Provide design oversight and review contractor shop drawings for compliance with approved specifications.
  • Review and approve electrical materials, equipment samples, catalogues, and technical data sheets.

Supervision & Installation Oversight

  • Oversee all electrical installations including low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), grounding, lighting, power, and distribution systems.
  • Validate positioning, routing, and mounting of conduits, panels, switchgear, and cabling systems.
  • Monitor inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure proper coordination between electrical, civil, architectural, and MEP works.
  • Verify compliance with national codes, safety regulations, and RICA standards.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain regular communication with project partners and stakeholders.
  • Prepare periodic electrical progress reports, technical reports, and risk assessments.
  • Provide documented site inspection reports with clear observations, non-conformities, and corrective actions.
  • Review and validate as-built drawings and final technical documentation.

Team & Site Management

  • Manage and supervise the site electrical team.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Coordinate daily activities and monitor productivity.
  • Identify technical risks and propose mitigation measures.
  • Perform any other electrical engineering tasks assigned within the project scope.

Team training and capacity building:

  • On-Site Technical Training: May provide practical technical guidance and on-site training to contractor technicians to ensure correct implementation of drawings, specifications, and construction standards.
  • Knowledge Sharing with Institutional Team: Share technical lessons learned, construction challenges, and best practices with the team to strengthen internal capacity and improve project delivery.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

Skills:

  • An understanding of construction principles, building codes, and regulations.
  • Hands-on experience supervising construction activities ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and resolving technical issues on-site.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety: understanding occupational health and safety regulations and their enforcement.
  • Advanced in Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs used in electrical and electronics Engineering ( AutoCAD or model in Revit, Civil 3D,Navisworks, Procore/Aconex, ....)
  • Advanced proficiency in electrical detailing and simulation software(ETAP/EasyPower, ........)
  • Bluebeam for field markups and QA/QC sign-off.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Kinyarwanda and English. Knowledge of French is an added advantage.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of experience

Licenses (Added advantage):

  • Registered and with a valid certificate from the Institution of Engineers
  • Possess valid RURA certifications for installation or equivalent certification.
